Ladakh being an adventurous destination has a lot of things to keep in mind. Several places in Ladakh as well as the highways that lead to this heaven on earth are highly secluded. This makes fulfilling the basic requirements very difficult. One such problem that many people face during their trip to Ladakh is the availability of medical facilities. This is one of the main aspects that people keep in mind while they visit Ladakh. Though it is advised to keep a first aid box in your backpack during the trip; not all the problems can be adhered to with a first aid box, right”?

In emergencies, it’s just the hospitals and clinics that people rely on. Although the number of visitors visiting here keeps increasing year after year; there is still a bit of concern around medical facilities. You can get medical help at multiple places but there is still a long way to go. The government has established a few hospitals in multiple places and Army clinics are also available at several places.

Medical Facilities on Manali- Leh highway

While you travel on the challenging Manali-Leh highway, there are high chances that you get affected by Acute Mountain Sickness. Although it totally depends on the health of the visitor AMS is one problem that is common. The magnitude varies from person to person. Here are some places where you can find medical help, but do not expect a hospital with technologically advanced equipment.

Manali has good medical facilities and once you leave the hill station then finding help is possible only at these places; Sissu, Keylong, Sarchu, Pang (some army camps offer this facility.)

Medical Facilities on Srinagar-Leh Highway

While you choose or plan to take the Srinagar-Leh highway, things can become better on this route. Not only will you get better facilities but there are multiple places where you get them. The number of places having medical facilities on the Srinagar Leh highway is higher than the other side. 

You can get a number of clinics, hospitals in and still Srinagar at ease. Once you leave the capital city of Jammu & Kashmir, the next place where you can find help will be Sonmarg. Then there are limited facilities available in Drass. 

Medical Facilities in Ladakh

Kargil has got some good hospitals and clinics. From here it's all about the medical facilities in Ladakh. Kargil is one of the major places in Ladakh and it constitutes a complete district and one of the 2 districts of Ladakh. 

So, after Kargil, you can get limited help in Lamayuru, and then there is a hospital in Leh. Being the capital of Ladakh, here you will get good facilities in the hospital. Though there is a scarcity in terms of numbers there are techniques, doctors, and equipment to cater to multiple problems. 

Note: Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri, Nubra Valley also have basic medical facilities to offer.
