Q. How can we reach Ladakh?

Answer. There are three ways to reach Ladakh:

  • The best way to travel to Ladakh is by flight. Leh Airport is well-connected with major cities like Delhi, Jammu, Chandigarh, Srinagar, and many other places through direct and connecting flights.
  • If you are traveling by road then there are two different routes lead to Ladakh - one from Srinagar and another from Manali. If you are traveling from Manali then you will cover the distance of 474 kilometers to Leh via Keylong with a night stopover. On the other hand, Srinagar to Leh will take you through Sonamarg, Drass, Kargil, Mulbekh, and Lamayuru. You will cover 434 km on this journey. All the roads remain open from May to October.

Q. Is there any oxygen problem in Ladakh?

Answer. Ladakh is located at high altitude, nearly 11,500 feet above sea level. At this altitude people often find difficulty in breathing or are likely to fall prey to altitude sickness. It happens due to a low level of atmospheric oxygen. It is advisable to give yourself enough time to acclimatize before engaging in any physical activity.

Q. What are the symptoms of High Altitude sickness? How long does it take to get acclimatize in Ladakh?

Answer. Some common symptoms of high altitude sickness include giddiness, loss of appetite, lack of sleep and difficulty in breathing. The best way to get acclimatize in Ladakh is a natural rest for at least 48 hours.

Q. What kind of accommodations are available in Ladakh?

Answer. There are varieties of accommodations available in Ladakh. The region is sprawling with the innumerable hotels, guest houses, homestays, and hostels. People can easily find accommodation in Ladakh without any hassle.

Q. Is tour to Ladakh by the road a good option?

Answer. For those who love biking and adventure of a Himalayan drive, a road journey is the best way to experience it.

Q. What is the ideal duration for the Ladakh trip?

Answer. The ideal time depends on your plan and itinerary. Generally, it needs 5 to 10 days to cover the major destinations in Ladakh. If trekking is your main goal then you may have to increase the duration as some long trekking trails require a more prolonged time to complete the tour.

Q. What kind of clothes we should bring during the Ladakh trip?

Answer. T-shirts and shorts are good clothing options during the daytime but after the sunsets the climate gets chilly and one requires a jacket and pullover. If you are trekking to the peaks of 4000 meters above sea level, you need warm woolen clothes. Rain and snowfall can take place in June and July and if you are travelling in this season then you should carry windcheaters and raincoats. If you are into trekking, a pair of waterproof shoes is a must.

Q. What kind of tourist vehicles are found in this region?

Answer. The high ground clearance vehicles are favorable in Leh. Tourists can found Toyota Innova, Mahindra Scorpio, XUV, Tata Safari, Sumo Grande, Xylo, Tavera, and Qualis. You will not find auto rickshaws here. Tourists can also rent a motorbike in Leh.

Q. Are there any ATMs in Leh?

Answer. Leh has four ATMs owned by Axis Bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India.

Q. Does credit card work in hotels and restaurants?

Answer. Yes, the credit card is accepted in a few hotels and restaurants but a service tax is charged.
